Supporting DHCP and WINS
About This Chapter
The Microsoft Windows 2000 Server family of products includes
enhanced implementations of the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol
(DHCP) and the Windows Internet Naming Service (WINS). These
enhancements are designed to lower your total cost of ownership (TCO) by reducing the amount of time you spend configuring, administering, and troubleshooting your DHCP
servers and clients, your Domain Name System (DNS) servers, and your
WINS servers and clients.
Before You Begin
To complete this chapter
- You must have a computer that meets or exceeds the minimum
hardware requirements listed in "Getting Started."
- You must have installed Windows 2000 Server on a computer
meeting the specifications listed in the preceding bullet. The computer
should be installed as a domain controller in a domain and TCP/IP
should be the only installed protocol.
- Your computer should be using a static IP address.
- You must have Windows 2000 Server CD-ROM.
